Primary objective
Provide advice and support for research, evidence and research governance activities, including the assessment and
management of external research applications, to support the department’s strategic objectives.
Context statement
The Evidence and Insights unit within Strategic Services supports evidence-based school and system improvement through
identification and contextualisation of insights to facilitate school improvement planning and agency business planning. The
unit provides advice on improvement analytics, evidence and research and executive commissioned analysis to support key
initiatives aligned with the department’s strategic direction. The unit is also responsible for the assessment and management
of external research applications, facilitating access to quality research in schools that delivers benefits to students, schools
and the system more broadly.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead, manage and support the development of strategic projects/programs, including project and program design,
implementation and research, to ensure alignment with relevant NTG and departmental frameworks.
2. Support evidence-informed research practices, including assessment of research applications, by promoting national
best practice and emerging trends and issues in education.
3. Establish, maintain and support collaborative relationships and networks with key internal and external stakeholders at
all levels to ensure efficient and effective engagement on strategic project-related matters, including governance,
planning, design, evaluation and research.
4. Prepare and contribute to ministerial briefings, reports, and general correspondence in a timely manner.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in policy and research in a relevant context, with a proven ability to work effectively to drive high-quality
research outcomes.
2. Demonstrated ability to apply strategic, conceptual, and analytical skills to identify opportunities and develop strategic
projects and policies suited to a complex and dynamic environment, with a focus on continuous improvement.
3. Demonstrated ability to consult, collaborate, and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of internal and external
stakeholders, including people from diverse cultures.
4. Ability to present complex issues concisely to ensure messages are appropriate for target audiences.
5. Highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
6. High-level organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to successfully manage concurrent projects.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in education, project management, business or similar.
2. Experience working in an educational context.
