About the role
ABOUT THE ROLE
Barker College is currently seeking to appoint a practical, technically minded and enthusiastic Junior School Specialist Teacher’s Aide (PreK – Y6) –STEAM and Design Technology located at the Hornsby Campus.
This will be a Permanent, Full-Time (1.0FTE) to commence in Term 4, 2026 (12 October 2026).
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Junior School STEAM, Design Technology and specialist teaching teams to support innovative, inquiry-based and hands-on learning for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6. All Junior Staff Teachers’ Aides are also required to participate in playground supervision and the school’s cocurricular program. This role is suited to someone who is passionate about encouraging young people to design, investigate, experiment, build and solve problems. The successful applicant will help students turn their ideas into practical outcomes using a range of traditional tools, contemporary technologies and creative design processes. The Teacher’s Aide will provide practical, technical and administrative support before, during and after lessons. This may include preparing materials and equipment, assisting students with tools and technologies, maintaining organised learning spaces, supporting safe workshop practices and helping teachers deliver engaging practical projects.
The School is an authorised International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) World School offering the Primary Years Program with a focus on Inquiry Learning from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6.
The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate a track record of:
Working and contributing to a team;
Providing effective practical, technical and administrative support for staff and students;
Supporting hands-on learning using tools, materials, equipment and digital technologies;
Experience or a strong interest in robotics, coding, drones, electronics, sewing, textiles, woodwork, construction or digital fabrication;
A strong commitment to safe workshop practices and age-appropriate use of tools and equipment;
An ability to work to deadlines;
Initiative and strong work ethic;
Confidence using ICT, digital systems and a willingness to learn new software and emerging technologies; A positive and supportive attitude;
An enthusiasm for continued professional learning.
