Universal MCH Nurse Salary between $56.44 - $62.19 per hour, plus casual loading, plus superannuation and applicable allowances.

Enhanced MCH Nurse Salary between $59.26 - $65.30 per hour, plus casual loading, plus superannuation and applicable allowances.

About The Role

The City of Ballarat is seeking motivated and experienced Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Nurses to join our vibrant team on a casual basis.

We have opportunities available across both our Universal Maternal and Child Health (UMCH) and Enhanced Maternal and Child Health (EMCH) programs. These roles support children from birth to school age and their families through evidence-based nursing practice, health promotion, early intervention, and collaborative care.

The Maternal and Child Health team sits within the Family, Youth & Children’s Unit and delivers services from six integrated Maternal and Child Health centres across the City of Ballarat, many of which are co-located within early learning hubs.

Universal Maternal and Child Health Nurse

As a Universal MCH Nurse, you will provide the Victorian Universal Maternal and Child Health service, supporting families through the Key Age and Stage (KAS) framework and early years initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Include

Delivering KAS assessments and consultations.Facilitating First-Time Parent Groups.Providing health promotion, education and early intervention support.Undertaking outreach activities where required.Working collaboratively with welfare, education, health and community services.Contributing to early years initiatives and programs that support vulnerable children and families.Supporting families to optimise child health, wellbeing and development.

Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Nurse

In addition to the responsibilities of the Universal role, Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Nurses provide targeted support to families experiencing increased vulnerability, complexity and risk factors.

Additional Responsibilities Include

Providing additional in-home support to families experiencing early parenting difficulties through family-focused and collaborative wrap-around care models.  Providing high quality evidence-based practice with a focus on strengthening parenting capacity, improve family functioning and focus on the health and wellbeing of vulnerable children and their families.  Empowering families to make optimal decisions related to their children’s health and development through working with the protective primary carer. Health promotion through evidence-based education and information relating to all aspects of parenting including breast feeding, early learning, nutrition and immunisation.  Early identification and intervention, improve linkages with other early childhood support systems including maternity services, family support, supported playgroup and early intervention services.  Facilitating system processes related to intake, assessment, allocation and transfer of care for families on discharge to universal platforms where appropriate.

Previous experience working within an Enhanced Maternal and Child Health program is highly desirable.

About You

To be successful in either role, you will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with families, colleagues, welfare and early year’s professionals. You are required to have current registration with AHPRA as a registered nurse and a registered midwife, and a recognised post graduate Maternal and Child Health qualification to meet employment in Victoria. You need a current Victorian driver’s licence, Working with Children and police check.

A position in the MCH team will involve working from any of the six MCH integrated sites across the City of Ballarat, which are predominantly co-located early learning hubs. To match resourcing requirements and to meet the demands of an expanding MCH program days of work will be determined with the successful applicant.

Key Selection Criteria

Appropriate qualifications and current registrations as required for Maternal and Child Health practice in Victoria.Demonstrated practice based on respect for the values, rights and dignity of clients,colleagues and self.Ability to communicate effectively with families,colleagues and other professionals.Demonstrated experience and understanding of evidence-based Maternal and Child Health practice, including the Victorian Universal MCH framework.Specialised knowledge of child health and development, women'shealth and family violence.Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively manage workload priorities.Commitment to networking and liaison with key community organisations and government departments.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.Competency in Microsoft Office 365 and Maternal and Child Health information systems.For Enhanced roles,demonstrated experience supporting vulnerable families with complex needs through intensive, family-centred practice.
