Disability Support Worker

About the role

Discovering You Support Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to join our team on a casual basis. This role is located in Logan Central, QLD 4114 and offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people with disabilities. As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals, helping them to achieve their goals, maintain independence and participate fully in their communities. This position is fundamental to our mission of delivering person-centred care and supporting the wellbeing and dignity of those we serve.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct personal care and support to service users, including assistance with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, grooming, dressing and meal preparation

• Support service users in accessing community activities, social engagement and recreational opportunities

• Assist with mobility support and safe manual handling practices in accordance with health and safety protocols

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and records relating to service users' support plans and daily activities

• Communicate effectively with service users, their families, carers and the wider support team to ensure coordinated and consistent care

• Support service users in developing life skills and building confidence and independence where possible

• Respond sensitively and professionally to the individual needs, preferences and goals of each service user

• Maintain a safe, clean and supportive environment that promotes dignity and respect

• Adhere to all relevant legislation, policies, procedures and organisational standards including disability support practices and safeguarding requirements

What we're looking for

• A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and a commitment to person-centred care

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with service users and team members

• Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental approach to supporting individuals with diverse needs and backgrounds

• Physical capability to assist with manual handling and mobility support where required

• Reliability and punctuality, particularly important given the casual nature of the role

• A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and/or Blue Card (or willingness to obtain these) as per Queensland requirements

• Current First Aid and CPR certification is highly desirable

• Experience in disability support, aged care, or similar care environments is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a flexible, responsive manner

• Sound understanding of disability support principles, person-centred practice and safeguarding best practice
