Dental assistant and receptiontist

About the role

Dentessential is seeking a dedicated and organised Dental Assistant and Receptionist to join our team in Richmond, NSW. This is a part-time position that combines clinical support with front-of-house duties, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic healthcare environment. You will be integral to ensuring our patients receive exceptional care and have a seamless experience from the moment they arrive at our practice. This role offers the perfect balance between clinical engagement and administrative responsibilities, allowing you to develop expertise across multiple areas of dental practice management.

Key responsibilities

• Providing chairside assistance to dentists during patient treatments, including instrument passing, suctioning, and patient comfort management

• Sterilising and maintaining dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control protocols

• Preparing treatment rooms and ensuring clinical areas are clean and well-stocked

• Greeting patients warmly and managing reception duties, including check-ins and check-outs

• Scheduling appointments and managing the practice appointment system efficiently

• Processing patient payments and maintaining accurate financial records

• Handling telephone inquiries and responding to patient requests professionally

• Maintaining patient records and ensuring all documentation is accurate and confidential

• Assisting with basic patient education on oral hygiene and post-treatment care

• Supporting the dental team with administrative tasks and general practice operations

What we're looking for

• A relevant qualification or certification in dental assisting, or equivalent experience in a dental practice environment

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a genuine passion for patient care

• Proficiency in dental practice management software and Microsoft Office applications

• Knowledge of infection control procedures and commitment to maintaining high standards of sterilisation

• A professional and courteous demeanour with the ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical setting

• Previous reception experience in a healthcare or customer-facing role is highly desirable

• Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it
