The Service

Centrecare, in partnership with Waalitj Foundation, will provide culturally and developmentally appropriate psychosocial, family, peer and other support services to at-risk children, young people and their families who have both mental health challenges and offending behaviours. The overall goal is to reduce the risk of reoffending in the context of mental illness in consultation and collaboration with other service providers, including the Child Adolescent Forensic Service (CAFS).

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Aboriginal Mental Health Worker 50(d) to support children, young people and their families working with the Child and Adolescent Forensic Service in the community or at Banksia Hill Detention Centre. You will provide social, emotional, cultural, and/or mental health support to young people and their families through a case management model.

This position is based in Northbridge with visits to Banksia Hill Detention Centre and out in the community.

A few specifics:

• Provide social, emotional and/or mental health care to children, young people and their families who are clients of CAFS.
• Provide cultural liaison and family engagement where relevant and provide cultural interpretations to the broader CAFS teams.
• Work within a multidisciplinary environment to contribute to and enhance the provision of mental health assessments and relevant interventions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, documentation, and reports in compliance with organisational policies and requirements.

About You

• You will be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
• Ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families.
• Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultures, kinship, and community dynamics, engaging respectfully with families.
• Certificate IV, Diploma, or Bachelor in Mental Health or progression to formal qualifications in Mental Health.
• Demonstrated experience working in the mental health sector and/or with young people.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar position.
  
• National Police Certificate (within 12 months validity).
• Working With Children Check or eligibility to obtain one.
• Valid WA Driver’s licence.
• Ability to commit to full-time work.
