About the role

As a Ranger the primary focus of your position is to plan for, and deliver, in park services as directed by the Ranger Team Leader to enable efficient and effective delivery. The Gippsland Lakes area sits within a culturally and environmentally diverse landscape and the tasks varied; Rangers can be brush cutting a walking trail, cleaning visitor sites, controlling weeds, talking to a group of visitors or undertaking a mammal monitoring survey.

The Gippsland team is passionate about caring for some of Victoria's most significant natural and cultural landscapes.

We are a small, supportive, collaborative and high-performing team that takes pride in delivering quality outcomes for our parks, visitors and local communities. We work closely with Traditional Owners, volunteers, contractors and stakeholders to protect environmental values, enhance visitor experiences and maintain important park infrastructure.

We're looking for someone with:

• Skills and experience undertaking grass management using small plant and equipment (line trimmers, ride on mowers etc) and practical skills; repairing assets such as fences, gates etc. within parks, public land, environmental management or a similar outdoor setting.
• Relevant qualifications or practical experience in environmental management, conservation and land management, natural resource management, outdoor recreation, a trade, or a related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with visitors, community groups, volunteers and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and autonomously, while contributing to a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace.
• Sound problem-solving skills, initiative and the ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• A current Victorian Driver Licence and the ability to work outdoors in remote locations, including undertaking rostered weekend work when required.
• Desirable; 4WD qualification and experience, Chainsaw Trim and Cross Cut qualification and experience
