Senior Policy Officer, Aged Care and System Priorities/ Cancer and Specialist Therapies

About the role: 

The Senior Policy Officer, working within a team reporting to the Manager, Cancer Research, Evidence and Intervention, provides high‑level project and policy delivery support across complex priority initiatives in cancer research, data and emerging interventions, with a particular focus on genomics and genetics.

The role supports the development and implementation of Victoria's genomics priorities, contributes to policy and program design informed by emerging evidence, and works collaboratively across government, the health sector and intergovernmental forums to progress agreed outcomes.

The position operates in a complex environment, requiring sound judgement, strong stakeholder engagement, analytical and systems thinking skills and the ability to manage multiple work streams to deliver timely and high‑quality outcomes.

About you:

• Forge strong connections across the department and with the health sector to share information and facilitate a partnership approach to implementation of key initiatives. 
• Manage key unit projects to include setting up, monitoring and managing contracts with external providers to ensure high quality outputs are delivered within agreed timeframes and budget and results can inform policy development. 
• Negotiates with stakeholders and peers with the object of gaining co-operation and meeting timelines for delivery of project, service or advice
• Oversees the management of the contracts to ensure timelines, budgets and other objectives are met; resolves contract difficulties as required; ensures good working relationships exist between stakeholders
• Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures. 

Qualification/Specialist Expertise

• A tertiary qualification in fields related to health, business and/or management is desirable. 

• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in managing and supporting ministerial, cabinet, parliamentary and departmental executive functions and processes would be desirable.

• Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the health system in Victoria and/or the Commonwealth would be advantageous.
