Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) representing the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.

About the Role

BLCAC is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Corporate Services team.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this hands-on role supports the delivery of accurate, timely and compliant financial operations across the organisation. The position is responsible for end-to-end payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, financial reporting support and month-end processes.

The role plays a key part in maintaining financial integrity, supporting compliance requirements, improving finance systems and processes, and contributing to the effective financial management of BLCAC.

This position offers a hybrid working arrangement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander finance professional looking to apply and further develop their accounting, payroll and financial management experience within a growing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Process end-to-end payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, taxation and superannuation requirements.
• Provide payroll support and guidance to employees, including onboarding and Employment Hero-related enquiries.
• Manage accounts receivable including invoicing, receipting and allocation of payments.
• Monitor debtor accounts and follow up outstanding balances.
• Process supplier invoices and payments in accordance with organisational procedures and internal controls.
• Prepare daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and supporting documentation.
• Assist with month-end reporting, reconciliations and financial reporting activities.
• Support financial compliance, audit preparation and the maintenance of accurate financial records and documentation.
• Respond to payroll, accounts and finance-related enquiries from staff and stakeholders.
• Liaise with suppliers, employees, government agencies and other stakeholders as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of finance systems, processes and controls.
• Maintain confidentiality, professionalism and integrity in all financial dealings.

What You Bring

Qualifications and Experience

• Aboriginality is essential. Bunurong applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years' experience in a similar Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer or Accounting role.
• Strong experience in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliations.
• Experience using accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB or similar.
• Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and financial compliance requirements.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
• Experience supporting audits, financial reporting and month-end processes.
• Experience working in a not-for-profit, community or Aboriginal organisation is desirable.
• Current Victorian Driver Licence.
• Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain.
