About the role

YLZ Truck Bodies is seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in Pakenham, Victoria. This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to work on innovative truck body design and manufacturing projects. You will play a crucial role in developing, designing and optimising mechanical solutions that meet the highest standards of quality, safety and performance. This position is integral to our continued success and growth in the commercial vehicle industry.

What you'll be doing

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for truck bodies using computer-aided design (CAD) software

• Conduct stress analysis, finite element analysis (FEA) and other computational simulations to validate designs

• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, procurement and quality assurance

• Identify and implement improvements to existing designs to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and improve performance

• Support the production process by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting manufacturing issues

• Ensure all designs comply with relevant Australian and international standards and regulations

• Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations to stakeholders

• Maintain accurate project records and documentation throughout the design and development process

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution

• Minimum 3-5 years' professional experience in mechanical engineering design and development

• Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar programs

• Strong knowledge of FEA and simulation software

• Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science and manufacturing processes

• Experience with truck, automotive or heavy vehicle design is highly desirable

• Familiarity with relevant Australian standards and regulations (AS/NZS, ADR)

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Project management experience and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

• Professional membership with Engineers Australia or equivalent is advantageous
