Established in 1996, Kitchen Garden At Rodney’s is a popular full-service dining and function venue located in the green surroundings of Pialligo. We serve breakfast, lunch and an all-day menu made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Our venue offers indoor and outdoor dining and is open seven days a week.

Job Description:

We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Chef to join our commercial kitchen team. This is a hands-on supervisory role responsible for planning and organising food preparation and cooking, coordinating kitchen operations and maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, safety and hygiene.

Task & responsibilities

• Planning menus, estimating food and labour costs, and ordering food supplies
• Preparing, seasoning and cooking food for breakfast, lunch, all-day dining and functions
• Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation
• Discussing food preparation issues with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff
• Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising staff on cooking procedures
• Coordinating daily kitchen operations, workflow and service priorities
• Monitoring stock levels, storage, rotation, portion control and food wastage
• Implementing and monitoring workplace health, safety, food safety and hygiene requirements
• Maintaining a clean and organised commercial kitchen environment
• Supervising and training kitchen staff and apprentices when required
• Assisting with kitchen budgets and controlling food and labour expenditure

Qualification & experience

• SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or an equivalent relevant commercial cookery qualification; or at least three years of relevant experience
• Relevant experience  1-2 years working as a Chef with supervisory responsibilities in a full-service dining or catering establishment
• Strong knowledge of commercial cookery, food safety and kitchen hygiene standards
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy commercial kitchen environment
• Strong teamwork, communication, organisation and time-management skills
• Availability to work weekends and public holidays as required

Our executive chef, Nathan Kleinig came to us after being the executive chef at Parliament House and has a resume that includes many well known restaurants around Canberra.

Our Pialligo Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and an all day dining menu with seasonal homemade meals and a range of delicious cakes, biscuits, slices and Devonshire teas.We cater to dietary requirements where possible and have a number of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan meals available on our menu.

We are open 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm.
