An exciting opportunity exists to be part of the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Local (MHWL) being rolled out across Victoria as part of the ongoing reforms following the Victorian Royal Commission into Mental Health. The Dandenong MHWL will be a key component of Victoria’s reformed mental health and wellbeing system, with Monash Health playing a key role as part of the partnership consortium. 

The MHWL will offer a range of mental health and community-based services aimed at supporting some of the most vulnerable members of the community in the Southeast of Melbourne.

We are seeking a Senior Dual Diagnosis Clinician/Educator to join the Dandenong MHWL team on a full-time basis.

About the Role

Improve outcomes for individuals experiencing co‑occurring mental health and substance use concerns by providing specialist assessments and interventions for co‑occurring disorders. This includes AOD comprehensive assessments, secondary consultation, and brief therapeutic interventions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct specialist assessments for co‑occurring mental health and AOD conditions, including comprehensive AOD assessments
• Provide consultation, brief therapeutic interventions, and supports multidisciplinary teams to recognise and respond to dual needs
• Use a biopsychosocial approach to contribute to collaborative care planning, secondary consultations, and harm‑reduction strategies
• Aim to improve physical and mental health outcomes while strengthening connections to family, community, and support systems
• Promote service integration through partnerships, training, and collaboration between mental health and AOD services
• Work closely with consortium partners, clinicians, consumers, and families/carers to support coordinated, person‑centred care and appropriate referrals
• Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills across diverse stakeholders and agencies
• Contribute to research, quality improvement, and collaborative safety and care planning 

About You

You are a compassionate and skilled clinician who demonstrates:

• Strong communication and leadership abilities
• A collaborative approach to working with diverse stakeholders
• A commitment to continuous learning and service improvement

You will also have:

• Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and consent to ongoing registration checks via Monash Health’s electronic credentialing systems
• Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
• Minimum of five years’ full-time equivalent post-qualification experience in mental health and/or AOD nursing
• Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs (or equivalent) or commitment to further relevant professional development (desirable)
• Demonstrated experience in AOD and/or related clinical settings, including comprehensive assessments and delivery of brief interventions
• Proven experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use (dual diagnosis) presentations
• Strong knowledge of the AOD service system, including referral pathways and integrated models of care
• Demonstrated experience in community-based mental health practice, including mental state examinations, risk assessments, and clinical intervention planning 
• Experience supporting individuals with acute and chronic mental health conditions in community settings
• Sound understanding of quality improvement principles and their application in service delivery
