The successful candidate will work across residential and commercial painting projects and will be responsible for completing painting and decorating work to a high professional standard.

The Painter position is an important part of the business operations because the quality of the finished painting work directly reflects the reputation and service standards of Jass Painting Services. Painters are responsible not only for applying paint but also for ensuring that surfaces are properly prepared, finishes are durable, colours are accurate and completed work meets client expectations. As the business continues to undertake painting projects across Melbourne, having experienced and dependable painters is essential to maintaining project schedules, meeting contractual obligations and delivering consistent quality across multiple worksites.

Task & responsibilities Examine surfaces and determine the appropriate preparation and painting requirements. Prepare walls, ceilings and other surfaces by removing old paint, filling cracks and holes, sanding and cleaning.

Apply primers, sealers, paints, varnishes and other finishes using brushes, rollers and spray equipment. Mix and match paints to achieve the required colours and finishes. Apply decorative finishes, textures, wallpaper and other surface coverings where required.

Protect surrounding areas, furniture and fittings before commencing work. Erect and safely use ladders, scaffolding and other access equipment. Repair and restore painted surfaces on new and existing properties.

Calculate material quantities and minimise waste. Maintain painting tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition. Follow workplace health and safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Work independently and collaboratively to complete projects within required timeframes. Communicate professionally with supervisors, clients, builders and other tradespeople. Ensure completed work meets company standards and customer requirements.

  Qualification & experience A minimum Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or an equivalent relevant qualification, is required. Applicants must have: At least one year of relevant painting and decorating work experience. Sound knowledge of surface preparation, paint application and finishing techniques.

Experience using brushes, rollers, spray equipment and other painting tools. The ability to interpret job specifications, colour schedules and work instructions. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Good organisational and time-management skills. The ability to work independently and collaboratively. The physical ability to undertake manual painting work.

Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements. Applicants with demonstrated experience in the following areas will be highly regarded: Applying wallpaper and decorative wall coverings. Creating textured, patterned or decorative finishes.

Matching colours and preparing customised paint shades. Applying stains, varnishes and specialised protective coatings. Restoring and finishing detailed surfaces to a high professional standard.

A valid Australian driver licence is desirable.
