Role Description:The Mechanical Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Clyde, This role proactively supports research progress by translating broad ideas and concepts into actionable development tasks that will be project managed. This role will investigate and prototype new designs and research ideas and prepare prototypes for production transfer through engineering calculations and design analysis, including optics. Other duties as required.
Duties will include but not limited to:To work closely with the research and development team to deliver innovative and creative mechanical designs and prototypes for new concepts.To ensure all designs are scale able and manufacturable.Undertake engineering calculations and design analysis.Use in-house simulation tools to model detectors and electron-ion optics.Develop engineering scopes in projects and specification documents.Document designs including 3D modelling, manufacturing drawings, process specifications, DFMEA and risk assessments.Question the norm to drive continuous improvement of equipment, products and processes being used in the field.Work effectively in a team environment interacting with peer engineers, research, and quality.Develop of product & site support literature.
Qualifications & Experiences:Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and or Mechatronics Engineering.Understanding of value management, project management and business management practices.Innovative thinking when developing new prototypes.3D CAD modelling advantageous.Sound understanding of typical product development processes.Ability to validate design by means of hand calculation and prototype testing as required.Ability to be a hands-on Engineer regarding prototype production and field testing.An understanding of drawing standards and GDT tolerancing.Excellent written and verbal communication skills that will enable effective. communication with all levels of the business.Positive, proactive mindset.Minimum 3 years of experience in the Mechanical Engineering field.
