Family Violence Case Manager

• Join Djirra’s Individual Support Services team and support Aboriginal women and children impacted by family violence. In this role, you’ll provide compassionate, trauma informed, and culturally safe support — helping women achieve safety, stability, and healing through strength based casework and holistic care.

About the Role

The Individual Support Services team provides intensive support services to Aboriginal women who are experiencing or have experienced family violence and are at risk of further harm. The team’s interventions range from short-term crisis responses to long-er-term intensive case-management. The team is also responsible for the provision of financial support to Djirra clients who fit the criteria via the Brokerage Program.

Reporting to the Team Leader of Intensive Case Management, you’ll walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children who are often navigating multiple, complex challenges. Using a client-centred, strength-based approach grounded in the Multi Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM) and a trauma-informed lens, you’ll help clients move toward safety and healing.

What you’ll do

• Provide culturally safe, collaborative casework support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their children affected by family violence.
• Undertake comprehensive risk assessment, case planning, risk management, and safety planning in line with the MARAM framework.
• Collaborate with other Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), specialist family violence services, and broader agencies to deliver holistic support.
• Facilitate referrals to services such as mental health, housing, and alcohol and other drug support.
• Maintain accurate case notes, correspondence, and reports to support quality service delivery and accountability.
• Assess eligibility for and administer Family Violence Flexible Support Packages.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, reflective practice, professional development, and relevant network meetings and forums.
• Build strong, collaborative relationships across internal programs and external agencies.

Who you are

• You have a strong understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community and the impact of family violence on Aboriginal women.
• You understand family violence within an Aboriginal cultural framework, centring the experiences and gendered nature of violence against Aboriginal women. Aboriginal women with relevant skills and experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
• You’re committed to engaging effectively with disadvantaged women experiencing family violence, bringing a flexible, non-judgemental, and empowering approach.
• You can work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a demanding environment.
• You bring sound interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and can prepare clear reports and documentation.
• You understand the complexities of confidentiality and mandatory reporting obligations.
• You’re comfortable using MS Office and other data systems, and confident picking up new platforms (e.g. SHIP for compliance reporting).
• You have a flexible, positive approach to working hours, including occasional after-hours work.

Requirements

Essential

• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Development, or related discipline
• A Victorian Employees Working with Children’s Check card or willing to obtain one
• Willing to obtain a Police Check at Djirra’s expense
• Driver’s License

Desirable

• At least 2 years’ experience in the family violence sector, preferably with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women would be highly regarded.
