Casual Cook & Kitchen Hand

About the role

Castello's Pakenham Hotel is looking for reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic people to join our kitchen team. We currently have opportunities available for a Casual Cook and Kitchen Hand, with approximately 15–20 hours per week available for each role. We're looking for team players who enjoy working in a busy hospitality environment, take pride in their work and can help us deliver a great experience for our customers.

Casual Cook

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients and complete mise en place before service.
• Operate grills, ovens, fryers and other kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Cook and plate meals accurately and consistently.
• Maintain clean and organised preparation and cooking areas.
• Follow all food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling requirements.
• Check food quality and freshness and ensure stock is correctly rotated and stored.
• Assist with stock control and minimising food waste.
• Maintain high standards of presentation and quality.
• Work closely with chefs, kitchen staff and the front-of-house team to ensure smooth and efficient service.
• Contribute to providing exceptional service and a positive experience for our guests.

About you

• Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Reliable, punctual and well organised.
• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Must hold all relevant certificates required for the role.
• Must be available to work weekends and public holidays.

Kitchen Hand

Key responsibilities

• Wash dishes, pots, pans and utensils in a timely manner.
• Keep food preparation and kitchen areas clean and organised.
• Clean kitchen equipment and appliances.
• Ensure kitchen work areas and walkways are kept clean, safe and clear.
• Assist with general kitchen cleaning and duties as required.
• Support the chefs and kitchen team during busy service periods.
• Work closely with chefs and front-of-house staff to help keep service running smoothly.
• Follow all workplace health, safety and hygiene requirements.
