Your Opportunity

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Works Leading Hand / Grader Operator to join our team in Collinsville. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for a highly skilled grader operator who enjoys mentoring others, coordinating daily works, and delivering quality outcomes for the community.

In this vital position, you will supervise a small crew and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You will play a key role in leading and operating the grader on a range of road construction and maintenance projects across the region, including while working on-site and in remote camp environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise a small team of workers to ensure high-quality and efficient work.
• Capture accurate site records to meet the satisfaction of the Works Coordinator.
• Implement traffic management requirements as per guidelines.
• Ensure all on-site works and activities fully comply with state rules and regulations.
• Address customer service requests, complaints, general inquiries, and transactions in an effective and timely manner.
• Operate plant and equipment as required, reporting any defects.
• Undertake “on call” duties on a rotational basis and respond to emergency callouts.
• Be available for camping when required, based on job needs.
• Report any matters that could impact the business, Council, or employees to the relevant Supervisor or Manager.
• Relieve at other locations throughout the region when required.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned, consistent with skills and training.

Your skills and experience

Essential

1. General Construction Safety Induction (White Card)
2. Class HR/HC Driver’s licence (or willing to obtain)
3. Current First aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain)
4. Traffic Management Implementation (or willingness to obtain)
5. Traffic Controller ticket (or willingness to obtain)
6. Operate and Maintain Chainsaws (or willingness to obtain)
7. Agriculture Chemical Distribution and Control ACDC (or willingness to obtain)
8. Occupation Health and Safety Certificate of competency in LR, LL, LB, LG & LF
9. Grader Operator Competency/ ticket

Desirable

• Certificate IV in Civil Construction
