About the role

S and L McPhee Cabinetmakers is seeking a skilled and experienced Cabinetmaker to join our established team in Cairns, Queensland. This is a full-time position based at our Cairns workshop (QLD 4870). As a Cabinetmaker, you will play a crucial high-quality custom cabinetry and joinery work that meets our clients' exacting standards. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, from residential kitchens and bathrooms.

Key responsibilities

• Design and construct custom cabinetry and joinery pieces using hand tools, power tools and machinery

• Read and interpret technical drawings and client specifications to ensure accurate project delivery

• Operate cabinet-making machinery including table saws, planers, routers, sanders safely and effectively

• Assemble, fit and finish cabinetry.

• Install completed cabinetry at client locations, taking measurements and making on-site adjustments as needed

• Maintain workshop tools, machinery and equipment in good working order

• Collaborate with the team to meet project deadlines whilst maintaining quality standards

• Adhere to health and safety regulations and workshop practices

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in cabinetmaking, furniture making or joinery (tradesperson or equivalent)

• Demonstrated experience working as a professional cabinetmaker, ideally with 3+ years in the industry

• Advanced proficiency with hand tools and traditional cabinetmaking techniques

• Strong competency in operating woodworking machinery and power tools safely

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately

• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing work of the highest quality

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to custom project requirements

• Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

• Current understanding of workplace health and safety requirements

• Valid driver's licence is desirable for potential site visits
