Assistant Store Business Manager / Stock Controller – Emporium

M.J. Bale is seeking a commercially driven and highly organised Assistant Store Business Manager / Stock Controller to join our Emporium Melbourne team.

This is not a traditional stockroom role. We are looking for someone who can confidently sell, build strong customer relationships and support the leadership of a high-performing team—while also ensuring stock, inventory and daily store operations are managed with exceptional accuracy.

The Role

Working closely with the Store Business Manager, you will help drive the commercial performance of the store while taking ownership of stock control and operational excellence.

You will lead from the front on the shop floor, coach the team to deliver exceptional service and ensure the right product is available in the right place at the right time.

Your Key Responsibilities

Sales and Customer Experience

• Deliver an elevated, personalised customer experience
• Build strong client relationships and confidently style customers across our menswear collections
• Lead by example to achieve individual and store sales targets
• Support the team in driving KPIs, conversion and average transaction value
• Assist with coaching, motivating and developing team members
• Support the Store Business Manager with daily leadership responsibilities

Stock and Store Operations

• Take ownership of stock accuracy, organisation and inventory control
• Manage incoming deliveries, transfers, replenishment and stock movements
• Complete regular stock counts and investigate discrepancies
• Maintain an organised, efficient and commercially focused stockroom
• Support loss-prevention processes and minimise stock variance
• Ensure best-selling products are replenished quickly and available to customers
• Maintain strong operational standards across the store
• Support visual merchandising and ensure product presentation reflects the M.J. Bale brand

About You

You will be a confident salesperson with a sharp eye for detail and a genuine passion for operational excellence.

To succeed in this role, you will ideally bring:

• Experience in a senior retail, supervisory, assistant management or stock control position
• A proven ability to deliver strong sales results and outstanding customer service
• Excellent stock management and inventory-control skills
• Strong attention to detail, organisation and time management
• Confidence coaching and motivating a retail team
• A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to lead from the front
• The ability to balance customer-facing priorities with operational responsibilities
• Experience in premium fashion, menswear or high-volume retail will be highly regarded
• Availability to work across a seven-day retail roster
