About the Opportunity

ASC is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Personnel Vetting Officer to support the delivery of critical personnel security and workforce screening activities. Working within a growing Security team, you will play a key role in administering background checking processes, assessing personnel security risks, and ensuring compliance with Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) requirements, AusCheck, NSSIC, and AS4811-2022 standards. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant defence organisation while helping protect people, assets, and information.

Responsibilities

• Conduct identity verification and workforce screening activities in accordance with AS4811-2022 requirements.
• Administer and manage AusCheck background screening processes and associated security records.
• Assess personnel security risks and provide recommendations regarding candidate and employee suitability.
• Verify eligibility and requirements for Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Identification Cards (NSSIC).
• Provide advice and guidance to managers and stakeholders on personnel security matters, including clearance and non-clearance holders.
• Conduct ongoing suitability assessments, including social media checks and personnel-related security reviews.
• Liaise with internal security teams, managers, and supervisors to investigate security concerns and support compliance with DISP and legislative requirements.
• Strong background in administrative practices in an office environment.

About you 

• Experience within personnel, physical, or information security, ideally in a Defence, Government, or DISP-regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of security governance, compliance, risk management, and assurance frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and manage security risks while maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and provide clear security advice.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgement when assessing personnel suitability and security-related matters.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
