We are seeking an experienced and qualified Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

CHEF POSITION - Full-time (38 hours per week)

This is a hands-on Chef position working closely with our Head Chef and kitchen team across preparation and restaurant service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking dishes to established recipes and quality standards, contributing to the efficient operation of the kitchen and maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, food safety and hygiene.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As Chef, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, seasoning and cooking a range of dishes in accordance with established recipes, menu specifications and restaurant standards.
• Preparing and cooking authentic Italian dishes, including pasta, sauces, meat, seafood, vegetables and other menu components.
• Examining food and ingredients to ensure appropriate quality and freshness before preparation and service.
• Monitoring the quality of dishes throughout preparation and at all stages of service.
• Portioning, plating and presenting dishes to consistently high restaurant standards.
• Working across designated kitchen sections and coordinating preparation and service with the Head Chef and other kitchen staff.
• Assisting with menu planning, development of dishes and seasonal menu changes where required.
• Monitoring stock levels, rotating ingredients correctly and assisting with ordering and inventory control.
• Minimising food waste and supporting appropriate portion and cost control.
• Ensuring food is stored, handled, prepared and cooked in accordance with food safety requirements.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and ensuring equipment and work areas are maintained appropriately.
• Following and supporting workplace health and safety procedures.
• Assisting with the training and supervision of junior kitchen staff, apprentices and kitchen hands where required.
• Working effectively and calmly during busy lunch and dinner services while maintaining consistency and quality.
• Communicating effectively with the Head Chef, kitchen team and restaurant management to ensure efficient kitchen operations.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this position, candidates should have:

• Relevant commercial cookery qualifications or equivalent professional culinary training.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience working as a Chef in a commercial restaurant environment, preferably with substantial experience in Italian cuisine.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare and cook dishes independently within a professional restaurant environment.
• Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency, presentation and quality.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure during busy restaurant services.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a professional kitchen team.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
