Full-time Men's Behaviour Intervention Program (MBIP) Facilitator

About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Men's Behaviour Intervention Program Facilitator to join the Domestic Violence Action Centre based in Toowoomba, QLD. In this full-time role, you will maintain a respectful, non-collusive and accountability-focused approach with men who use violence in intimate and family relationships to support sustainable behaviour change, while maintaining a strong focus on victim-survivor and child safety. You will work closely with a female co-facilitator, with the aim to model an equal relationship in the group setting. The role also works closely with the Men’s Program Coordinator/Team Leader and the Women’s/Partner Advocate with the shared objectives of victim safety and perpetrator accountability.

As a Men’s Program Facilitator, you will be responsible for delivering men’s intervention group programs, including the Duluth curriculum for those men currently attending as part of a coordinated community response that addresses risk and safety to adults and children experiencing domestic and family violence.

Responsibilities will include:

• Provide therapeutic group facilitation in accordance with the program guidelines and structured (evidence-based) Duluth curriculum for the delivery of the Men's Behaviour Intervention Program.

• Individual case management/counselling support and referral pathways into other suitable programs/services.

• A positive attitude and ability to work flexibly and proactively in a team environment and autonomously with a commitment to the values and missions of DVAC to meet community need.

• Demonstrated IT capability including the use of Microsoft and client management systems.

• Maintaining factual and timely group and individual case notes.

• Regular clinical/practice supervision and continuous professional development.

• Assessing and sharing risk, team consultation and reporting to senior workers and management.

About You:

• Tertiary qualifications in social work, counselling, human services, psychology, criminology, justice, or a related discipline.

• Experience in delivering behaviour change group programs for men who use violence and/or abuse towards their partners and/or children and families.

• Observed a minimum of 16-32 hours of men’s behaviour change group work program would be desirable.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to use empathy and maintain professional boundaries while using a trauma-informed lens and strengths-based approach.

• Working knowledge of the Duluth Curriculum and the dynamics of domestic violence, particularly relating to strategies and behaviours of domestic violence perpetrators, coercive patterns of violence, risk management, and gendered analysis of how power and control is used in relationships.

• Comfortable in holding men accountable without shaming or humiliating them, challenging abusive attitudes directly but respectfully and managing challenging group dynamics.

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally sensitive practice when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.

• Knowledge of or ability to acquire understanding of relevant legislation and acts including: The Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012, section 5A Information Sharing; the Child Protection Act 1999 and the Family Law Act.

• A working knowledge of equity and workplace health and safety principles and ability to work within organisational policies and practice frameworks.

• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

• Current Positive Notice Blue Card (or ability to obtain one prior to commencing role), Police check and valid working rights.

Desirable:

• Graduate certificate or equivalent in family violence or facilitating men’s behaviour change work and/or completed specialist, evidence-based men’s group intervention training of at least 25 hours (duration). 

• Knowledge and practice in CRM data system.

• Trained in motivational interviewing and high level of theoretical knowledge
