The Tasmanian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (TPRS) delivers specialised, coordinated rehabilitation services to children and young people with disability, injury, or complex developmental needs, and to their families, across Tasmania. Working within a statewide, interdisciplinary model, the team is committed to providing high-quality, child and family-centred care that supports participation, independence, and quality of life.

We are seeking a collaborative, passionate, and skilled Senior Physiotherapist to join the Tasmanian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (TPRS), a statewide interdisciplinary team dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people with complex rehabilitation needs. Based at the Royal Hobart Hospital, this role provides inpatient and outpatient services, as well as consultative support to clinicians and families across Tasmania.

The successful applicant will deliver specialised physiotherapy services to children and young people aged 0–18 years who experience functional impairment as a result of complex health conditions. Common presentations include:

• Cerebral palsy and children at high risk of cerebral palsy
• Acquired brain injuries
• Complex orthopaedic conditions
• Complex movement disorders
• Neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, Guillain-Barré syndrome)
• Functional neurological disorders
• Spinal cord injuries
• Limb deficiencies

As a key member of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team, you will contribute to specialist outpatient services including Spasticity Clinic, Spinal Clinic, Brain Injury Clinic, and Combined Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Clinic, working in partnership with medical, nursing, surgical, and allied health colleagues. The role also includes coordination and management of Tasmania’s Hip Surveillance Program for children and young people with cerebral palsy.

Key Responsibilities

Within the Tasmanian Health Services Framework and in accordance with Agency policies and procedures, the Senior Physiotherapist will:

• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy services to paediatric rehabilitation patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Work collaboratively with children, young people, families, carers, and the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualised rehabilitation programs.
• Provide clinical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and support to physiotherapists, allied health assistants, and undergraduate students.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills within a complex and dynamic multidisciplinary environment.
• Provide specialist clinical expertise and education to physiotherapy, allied health, medical, nursing, and external service providers.
• Contribute to service development, innovation, quality improvement, and research activities that enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.
• Support statewide rehabilitation services through consultation, collaboration, and capacity-building initiatives.

Fixed term part time, day worker, working 38 hours per fortnight, with an as soon as possible start for a period of 6 months. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

$117,272 to $126,182 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement, Allied Health Professional, Level 3

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

• Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia
• Registered with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia
• Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

• Current Driver’s Licence
• Postgraduate qualifications or working towards this in the identified clinical area
