Lifeline Australia is a national suicide prevention charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. We are committed to empowering Australians to be suicide-safe through connection, compassion and hope.

Lifeline Australia Ltd (LLA) is located in Sydney, with small teams of dedicated staff employed to lead funding and corporate relations activities, and to provide the design, technical infrastructure and governance of services across Lifeline’s member network. LLA recently embarked on an exciting transformation journey, guided by an ambitious strategic plan.

The 2024-2027 Strategic Plan will see enhancements across services, technology and workforce to bring about better outcomes and a more accessible and flexible support system for help-seekers.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Practice Lead, Cultural Safety provides culturally grounded clinical guidance to strengthen the safety, quality and effectiveness of services delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This role ensures that practice reflects the principles of cultural safety, self-determination and trauma-informed care, while aligning with organisational governance requirements and relevant national standards.

The position plays a critical role in embedding culturally responsive models of care and supporting Lifeline Australia and delivery partners to deliver safe, evidence-informed practice. This is an identified position and is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants in accordance with relevant legislation. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide expert clinical guidance to ensure culturally safe and clinically sound service delivery.
• Promote best practice models informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing. 
• Contribute to clinical governance forums, case review panels and service improvement initiatives. 
• Strengthen workforce capability through coaching, reflective practice and structured learning
• Partner with cultural advisors, Elders and community representatives to inform service design and review. 
• Contribute to incident review, complaints oversight and continuous improvement processes with a cultural safety lens. 
• Monitor and report on cultural safety indicators and service outcomes. 
• Build and maintain respectful relationships with key stakeholders. 

ABOUT YOU

• Relevant tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, counselling, mental health nursing or related discipline. 
• Deep understanding of cultural safety, intergenerational trauma, and the social and emotional wellbeing framework.
• Experience working within Aboriginal Community Controlled services (desirable). 
• Strong capability in influencing, mentoring and supporting multidisciplinary teams.
• Strategic communication and stakeholder engagement. 

All employees of Lifeline Australia must undergo a National Police Check.
