About the role
Bernard Laverty Funerals
About Us
Bernard Laverty Funerals is a proudly family-owned funeral service provider with strong local connections and a long-standing reputation for care, integrity, and professionalism. As a small, community-focused business, we believe how we do business is just as important as the services we provide. Our team works closely together to deliver respectful, seamless care to families while maintaining high standards across our facilities, memorial spaces, and community presence.
Our Values
Put People First
We take care of our staff and suppliers so they can take care of the families we serve. Foster a Team Approach
We work calmly and collaboratively across all areas of the business.
Go the Extra Step
We take action that builds lasting relationships and trust within our community. Maintain Business Integrity
Professionalism, honesty, and respect underpin everything we do.
About the Role
We are looking for a capable, caring, and adaptable individual to join our team in a Funeral Director & Monumental Services role.
This is a hands-on, service-facing operational role with a strong focus on monumental, memorial, and cemetery services, while also supporting funeral services and becoming a recognised presence within the community.
You will regularly attend funeral services, assist with service delivery, and support the care of the deceased. While the role does not involve meeting with families to arrange funerals, it does require professionalism, discretion, and emotional awareness when working around grieving families and the deceased.
This role includes after-hours and on-call work and suits someone who thrives in a small business environment where no two days are the same.
Key Responsibilities
Funeral & Deceased Care
● Assisting with funeral services, setup, pack-down, and service delivery ● Supporting the care, preparation, and transfer of the deceased
● Preparing coffins, equipment, and service materials
● Maintaining professional presentation at all times
Monumental & Cemetery Services
● Assisting with monument, plaque, and memorial installations
● Cemetery and memorial garden preparation and maintenance
● Measuring, positioning, and installing plaques and inscriptions
● Liaising with suppliers and supporting memorial works
● Ensuring memorial spaces are maintained respectfully and to a high standard
After-Hours & On-Call Duties
● Participation in an after-hours and on-call roster
● Responding to transfers and urgent operational requirements
● Being familiar with the local area and service locations
Community & Operational Support
● Assisting with community events, memorial days, and open days
● Supporting general operations in a small-team environment
● Facility, vehicle, and equipment upkeep
● Working collaboratively across all areas of the business
About You
You don’t need prior funeral industry experience — full training is provided from day one. We welcome applications from those new to the industry, as well as candidates with funeral, trades, landscaping, construction, logistics, or operational management backgrounds. You will be:
● Genuinely motivated to help people at a difficult time in their lives
● Practical, hands-on, and able to multitask in a changeable environment ● Calm, respectful, and emotionally aware
● Comfortable working around the deceased, both prepared and unprepared ● Physically capable of manual handling and outdoor work
● Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions precisely
● Career-minded and open to learning new skills
● Flexible with hours, including after-hours and on-call work
Essential requirements:
● Full, unrestricted driver’s licence
● Ability to participate in an on-call roster
● Familiarity with the local area (or willingness to learn quickly)
What’s in It for You
Professional Advancement
● Training and development from day one
● Recognition, rewards, and opportunities for growth
● Employee referral programs

● Above-award wages, allowances, and conditions
● Uniforms and dry cleaning supplied
