Job Closure date: 30 days
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cabinetmaker for a full-time, permanent position within our client's advanced workshop. This role is central to the production of custom-made cabinets, fine furniture, and specialized commercial fit outs. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting complex designs and transforming premium materials into finished articles of outstanding quality, from initial fabrication through to final finishing and hardware installation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Project Analysis & Specification Planning:
• Meticulously examine and interpret detailed workshop drawings, CAD designs, work orders, and sample components to determine precise construction specifications and methodologies.
• Select and prepare premium materials including solid timber, veneers, particle board, and specialized engineered wood products appropriate for each project's functional and aesthetic requirements.
Precision Manufacturing & Machining:
• Program, set up, and operate Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery to accurately mark out, cut, shape, and profile components with exceptional efficiency and accuracy.
• Fabricate bespoke cabinets, freestanding furniture, and specialized fittings—including those for marine and automotive interiors—utilizing both advanced machinery and traditional hand-tool techniques to achieve fine detail.
Expert Assembly & Finishing:
• Assemble prepared components and sub-assemblies to form complete sections and finished articles, ensuring perfect alignment, structural integrity, and seamless construction.
• Skilfully apply protective and decorative finishes through sanding, staining, sealing, and coating processes to achieve a superior, client-specified surface quality on all cabinetry and furniture.
Hardware Fitting & Installation Support:
• Precisely fit and calibrate all associated hardware including hinges, locks, catches, drawer runners, and shelving systems to ensure flawless operation and longevity.
• Participate in the on-site installation and final fitting of cabinetry for kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial fit-outs, conducting necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect finish.
Specialist Fabrication & Restoration:
• Construct frames and build custom fittings for upholstered items such as chairs and couches, adhering to specific design and durability requirements.
• Potentially engage in the careful reproduction of period furniture or the expert repair and refurbishment of antique and contemporary pieces, utilizing appropriate restorative techniques.
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
• A formal qualification such as a Certificate III in Cabinet Making or equivalent is essential.
• Proven post-apprenticeship experience (minimum 2+ years) within a high-end cabinetmaking, furniture manufacturing, or specialist joinery workshop environment.
• Demonstrable experience working with a broad range of materials including solid timber, veneers, and engineered boards.
Technical Proficiencies:
• High competency in programming, operating, and maintaining CNC machinery and CAD software for component production.
• Advanced skills in traditional cabinetmaking joinery, precision assembly, and hand-finishing techniques.
• Proven ability to install cabinetry and fittings on-site with a focus on precise integration.
Personal Attributes:
• An artisan's eye for detail and a steadfast commitment to producing work of the highest craftsmanship and quality.
• A methodical, problem-solving approach with the ability to work independently and manage workflow to meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset to work effectively with workshop colleagues and design staff.
• The physical capability to handle workshop duties, including lifting materials and standing for extended periods.
What’s On Offer:
This role offers a skilled tradesperson the opportunity to work on prestigious, varied projects with premium materials in a supportive, well-resourced environment. The position comes with a permanent full-time contract and a competitive salary package reflective of experience and skill level.
Application Process:
If you possess the craftsmanship and technical skills required for this specialist cabinetmaking role, please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience. All applications will be treated with the strictest confidence.
