About the role

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) in Stoma and Wound Management join us in a permanent, full time or part-time role.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Stoma and Wound Management delivers expert, patient-centred care. This advanced clinical and leadership role involves coordinating care, fostering communication and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.

The CNC provides operational leadership when delegated and practices in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia standards and relevant legislation. The CNC also delivers expert, patient-centred care and provides advanced clinical leadership across the continuum of care.

Salary range: $70.58 - $76.63 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The role involves coordinating care, fostering communication, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest quality outcomes for patients. With extensive specialty experience, the CNC supports clinical excellence and integrated care across Mater Health. You will also provide clinical leadership when delegated by the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) demonstrating professionalism and accountability in all aspects of your practice.

• Provide expert, high-quality care in stomal and complex wound management to optimise healing and patient quality of life
• Conduct thorough, outcome-based assessments to develop individualised care plans for patients with stomas and wounds
• Implement evidence-based interventions, including advanced dressings and appropriate referrals
• Evaluate care effectiveness regularly, adjusting plans to achieve best possible outcomes
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community services to ensure coordinated care
• Lead improvements in stomal and wound care models to enhance service continuity and quality
• Lead the development and implementation of clinical pathways, protocols, and standards of practice
• Advocate for patients by providing education on self-care and supporting informed decision-making
• Mentor and educate staff to build specialist knowledge and skills in stomal and wound management
• Apply current research and guidelines to improve practice and reduce complications
• Promote patient safety and adherence to infection control standards in all care activities
• Drive service development initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and continuity of care
• Work autonomously to manage specialist caseloads and prioritise service delivery requirements
• Provide expert consultation and advice to nursing, medical, and allied health staff

About you

The successful candidate must hold a current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and have extensive demonstrated experience in wound management and/or stomal therapy.

• Minimum of five years’ experience in Stomal and Wound therapy
• Postgraduate qualification certification in Wound or Stomal Therapy Nursing
• Client-centred, involving patients and carers in care decisions to meet their needs
• Results-driven and organised, able to plan and achieve goals aligned with organisational priorities
• Highly autonomous and self-directed, with the confidence to lead a specialised service independently
• Experienced in establishing, developing or expanding clinical services and programs
• Skilled in developing and empowering others, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement
• Strong critical thinker and problem solver, able to manage complexity and create innovative solutions
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage stakeholders and build effective relationships
• Commercially aware, applying financial understanding to support strategic goals
• Agile in managing change, guiding others through transitions with vision and adaptability
• Practises self-awareness, emotional regulation, and self-care to maintain resilience and professionalism
• A strong critical thinker and problem solver who can effectively manage complexity and competing priorities
