about the program

The Mental Health Education Program (MHEP) delivers engaging, evidence‑based mental health education to school students, staff, parents and carers across Australia, with a strong focus on regional, rural and remote communities.

The program strengthens mental health literacy, enhances school capacity, and supports young people and families to access clear help‑seeking pathways, including local headspace centres and community‑based services.

This role sits within the headspace Schools & Communities division and works closely with other national programs, including headspace Centres.

what you'll do

Working in this role, you will:

• Deliver high‑quality mental health education workshops to students, staff, parents/carers and wider school communities.
• Build strong, proactive and genuine relationships with school leaders, wellbeing teams, headspace centres, local services, and community stakeholders.
• Travel regularly to ensure equitable access to the program, including:
  • Weekly travel across metropolitan regions during school terms, and
  • A minimum of four weeks per term travelling to regional, rural and remote communities intrastate and interstate.
• Collaborate with colleagues and national teams to support school communities during postvention and critical incident recovery periods.
• Work respectfully and collaboratively with First Nations communities and support culturally safe practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, resource development and program evaluation activities.
• Represent headspace Schools & Communities at planning days, national meetings, conferences, and other organisational priorities.
• This is a dynamic, relationship‑focused role ideal for educators, mental health practitioners, and youth‑focused facilitators passionate about strengthening school wellbeing.

In this role, you may engage with young people and families navigating complex mental health and wellbeing concerns, including distressing or sensitive situations. We are committed to supporting our staff through supervision and reflective practice and encourage applicants to consider how this work may impact them personally.

what you'll bring

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in mental health, education, community development, training or a related field; or relevant professional/community‑based experience.
• Demonstrated experience in program delivery or service implementation.
• Experience in the delivery of training and resource packages for young people, families, or professionals, ideally within school or mental health settings.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of education sectors, student health and wellbeing policies, frameworks and programs and youth mental health.
• Strong organisational and project management skills.
• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
• A current driver's licence and access to a fully maintained motor vehicle.
