Key Responsibilities

The primary role of the Head of Individual Needs is to support the learning needs of students from Prep to Year 12. 

• Utilise data to identify students requiring Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and provide professional guidance to staff on setting appropriate goals for these students.
• Regularly monitor and ensure that IEPs are kept up to date.
• Identify students with individual needs and assist staff in recognising these students, while coordinating campus-wide screening tests, collecting, and analysing data in line with Haileybury’s screening test program.
• Engage in resource planning and management to advocate for students requiring disability funding.
• Collaborate with Haileybury Psychologists to ensure that students in need of assessments or ongoing psychological support receive the necessary services.
• Coordinate referrals to external specialists, such as speech pathologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, Teachers of the Deaf, occupational therapists, behavioural optometrists, and other relevant providers.
• Work with relevant staff to plan and manage Program Support Meetings (PSGs).
• Participate in campus-based Pastoral Care Meetings to provide updates on students with special needs and disabilities and recommending appropriate curriculum modifications or differentiation strategies.

• Strong team player with the ability to effectively collaborate with staff, students, and colleagues.
• Capable of handling multiple demands in a dynamic, semi-structured environment.
• Proficient in high-level decision-making, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with students.
• Resilient when managing interactions with staff and students in challenging situations.
• Able to work in variable environments, including managing physical tasks like lifting parcels (up to 5kg) and assessing the need for PPE.
• A Master's degree in Special Education is highly desirable and will support your success in this role.
