About the role
Wellbeing Support Workers (Identified Positions)
Transition Program | Shanty Creek | Mareeba Region
2 Positions Available
This is an Identified Position. Applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Support People to Build Healthy Futures
At Lives Lived Well, we walk alongside people on their journey of recovery, social and emotional wellbeing. Through our residential Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services across Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia, we support thousands of people each year to navigate AOD-related challenges and move forward in life.
Located approximately 60km from Cairns, the Shanty Creek Transition Program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as they move from residential treatment into community living. We walk alongside participants as they continue their recovery journey, strengthen support networks and work towards achieving their personal goals.
This role provides an opportunity to support people beyond treatment, helping them strengthen connections to family, culture and community while building confidence and independence.
At Shanty Creek, we recognise the strength, resilience and cultural knowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples bring. We provide a culturally safe environment where people can connect and reconnect with themselves, their culture, community and future aspirations while working towards recovery and wellbeing.
Your Opportunity
As a Wellbeing Support Worker, you will provide day-to-day support to participants, helping them build confidence, maintain wellbeing, strengthen support networks, and continue progressing towards their recovery goals.
Working closely with participants and the wider team, you'll walk alongside people as they strengthen their wellbeing, build confidence, strengthen community connections and work towards recovery goals, while supporting a culturally safe environment that promotes respect, connection and hope.
While this is an Identified Position, the successful applicant will contribute to the wellbeing of all participants accessing the Shanty Creek Transition Program. The cultural knowledge, lived experience and perspectives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff bring are highly valued and help create a culturally safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.
In this role, you will:
"In this environment, being compassionate and non-judgemental are non-negotiables. We need someone who cares."
Lives Lived Well Employee
This position is an Identified Position and Lives Lived Well considers being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to be a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).
What We're Looking For
You don't need to hold a formal qualification for this role, but you do need to be motivated, committed and have a genuine interest in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the Alcohol and Other Drugs sector.
Your skills and strengths:
You will need to hold a current Australian Driver Licence and either hold, be working towards, or be willing to obtain a Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Mental Health, Community Services or a related field. Relevant experience in a similar role within the Alcohol and Other Drugs or Community Services sector will also be highly regarded.
You will also need to be willing to obtain a First Aid and CPR Certificate.
About You
You understand the importance of connection, respect and community. You recognise that recovery looks different for everyone, and you believe people deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion. You are passionate about walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as they strengthen their wellbeing, achieve their goals and create positive futures for themselves, their families and their communities.
Our Values
Most importantly, you will have passion, commitment and a great attitude with a genuine alignment to the Lives Lived Well values:
Benefits of Working with Us
The team at Shanty Creek are warm, welcoming, and love working together. We have a democratic approach to problem-solving and are supported by a leader who collaborates with us to make positive changes and improvements.

We recognise that people bring a range of strengths, experiences and perspectives, and we encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.
