Intermediate Tax Accountant

About the role

Inform Business Accounting is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join the practice on a part-time basis. The role combines client bookkeeping, payroll, BAS preparation, individual tax return preparation and business services accounting support. The position is suited to a candidate with strong Xero bookkeeping experience who is comfortable working directly with clients and who is looking to further develop accounting and taxation skills within a professional public practice environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients using Xero

• Process bank reconciliations and review client coding

• Prepare journals and general ledger adjustments

• Review and reconcile key balance sheet accounts

• Process payroll and STP filing

• Assist clients with Xero and general bookkeeping queries

• Prepare monthly and quarterly BAS and IAS for review and lodgement

• Prepare individual income tax returns for review

• Assist with preparation of financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders

• Respond to client enquiries in a professional and timely manner

About you

• Minimum 2 years experience in bookkeeping, payroll or accounting support

• Strong working knowledge of Xero

• Experience processing payroll and Single Touch Payroll reporting

• Experience preparing BAS and reconciling GST accounts

• Understanding of Australian taxation principles relevant to individuals and small business clients

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise multiple client jobs

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
