Accountant/Bookkeeper

About the role

Barambah Business Services Pty Ltd is seeking a dedicated Accountant/Bookkeeper to join our team in Wondai, Queensland. This is a full-time position based in our Wondai QLD 4606 office. In this role, you will provide essential financial and bookkeeping support to our clients, combining technical accounting expertise with practical bookkeeping skills. You will be central to delivering high-quality financial services and supporting the growth of our business within the community.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for clients, including recording transactions, reconciliations and general ledger management

• Prepare financial statements, trial balances and management accounts for small to medium-sized businesses

• Process invoices, expenses and payroll documentation in accordance with accounting standards and client requirements

• Reconcile bank statements and accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records

• Assist with tax compliance and preparation tasks, including GST returns and income tax documentation

• Provide bookkeeping support to multiple clients, managing deadlines and priorities effectively

• Liaise with clients to gather financial information and clarify queries relating to their accounts

• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with accounting principles and relevant legislation

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of client relationships through professional and timely service delivery

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in accounting, bookkeeping or a related financial discipline, or equivalent practical experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role

• Demonstrated experience in bookkeeping and small practice accounting, ideally within a small accounting practice or in-house accounting function

• Proficiency with accounting software, including MYOB, Xero or similar platforms commonly used in Australian practice

• Strong knowledge of Australian tax compliance, including GST, PAYG and income tax reporting requirements

• Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial statement preparation and general ledger management

• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and reconcile discrepancies accurately

• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously

• Professional communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with clients and colleagues

• A commitment to professional development and staying current with accounting practices and software updates

• Reliability and integrity in handling sensitive financial information
