• Support the coordination of strategic priorities, projects and activities across a range of ACCC work areas and consolidate information into clear products for decision-makers.
• Support the ACCC’s engagement with the Australian Parliament, government departments and ministerial offices, including supporting the ACCC’s appearances before Senate Estimates and Parliamentary inquiries.
• Prepare executive and Ministerial briefs, correspondence, reports, presentations, meeting papers and other executive materials.
• Undertake research and analysis to identify issues, risks and emerging opportunities relevant to the ACCC.
• Identify opportunities to improve coordination, processes and ways of working.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative and outcomes-focused team environment.

In order to succeed in the role, you will have:

• Knowledge of parliamentary and cabinet processes, or the ability to quickly gain this knowledge.
• Ability to demonstrate interest in the ACCC’s role, current competition and consumer law issues and public policy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence, negotiate and work collaboratively with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, plan and manage your work and seek guidance when required.
• The ability to communicate complex issues simply, clearly and effectively in different mediums.
• Decision making using sound judgement, expertise and knowledge in line with agreed procedures.

As an APS 4, you will work under general direction, coordinate defined activities and use established processes and sound judgement to deliver quality outcomes. You will contribute to planning and escalate complex or sensitive issues when needed.

As an APS 5, you will work more independently, manage complex matters and provide advice within your area of responsibility. You will analyse competing priorities, develop recommendations for executives and escalate issues when needed.

The ACCC is an independent statutory authority that administers the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other Acts. The ACCC works to promote effective competition and fair trading in the market place to benefit consumers, business and the community, and efficiency in the delivery of certain infrastructure services. The AER is a part of the ACCC. The AER is Australia's national energy market regulator and has an independent board. The AER shares employees, resources and facilities with the ACCC.
