Medical Receptionist

About the role

We're looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and organised Medical Receptionist to join our team and become an important part of our local community. Working in a medical practice is about much more than answering phones and booking appointments. Our reception team plays an important role in helping patients access the healthcare they need and making sure they feel welcome, supported and valued when they walk through our doors.

You'll be one of the first people our patients see, so your warmth, enthusiasm and willingness to help can make a real difference.

Key responsibilities

• Welcoming patients and making them feel comfortable and supported
• Answering phones and helping patients with their questions and appointments
• Booking, changing and cancelling appointments and ensuring patients are booked into the appropriate appointment type
• Managing a busy reception area while keeping things calm, organised and professional
• Processing payments, Medicare claims and other billing requirements
• Registering new patients and keeping patient information accurate and up to date
• Processing referrals, correspondence, scanning and other administrative tasks
• Assisting doctors and nurses with their administrative needs
• Helping manage recalls, reminders and follow-up appointments
• Promoting the health services available at the practice and helping patients understand when those services may be beneficial to them

• Warm, approachable and passionate about helping patients
• A confident and positive communicator
• Comfortable speaking with patients face-to-face and over the phone
• Organised and able to juggle multiple priorities
• Calm and friendly when the clinic gets busy
• Reliable, punctual and someone the team can depend on
• Comfortable using computers and learning new systems
• Detail-oriented, particularly when dealing with patient information and billing
• A team player who is happy to help wherever needed
• Respectful of patient privacy and confidentiality
