With the introduction of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), Somerville House is the only girls’ school in Queensland to offer the IBDP, giving students the choice of either the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). This distinctive offering reflects our commitment to meaningful choice, academic excellence and globally recognised pathways.
The Role
This is a permanent, full-time position, commencing in Term 4, 2026.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to teach IB Diploma Programme English A: Language and Literature to highly engaged Senior Years students, fostering intellectual curiosity, deep engagement with language and literature, and sophisticated critical thinking.
The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of the IBDP at Somerville House while working collaboratively within a high-performing and professional English Department and broader academic team.
We Are Seeking a Teacher Who
Has strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, the IBDP, particularly English A: Language and Literature.Is an accomplished English educator with a strong understanding of IB philosophy, curriculum and assessment practices.Has expertise and proven experience in the IBDP, particularly in Language and Literature and a strong understanding of QCAA and the Australian Curriculum across Senior School subjects.Is able to teach a secondary teaching area which may include subjects within the IBDP and/or QCE.Values innovation, collaboration and ongoing professional growth.Understands that positive relationships are central to effective learning and student wellbeing.Brings intellectual curiosity, high expectations and a genuine passion for engaging students in language, literature and ideas.Holds current Queensland College of Teacher registration (QCT) and relevant tertiary qualifications.Relevant IB professional development and/or experience as an IB examiner, moderator or workshop leader would be highly regarded.

Employment Classification
The salary and conditions of employment for Academic staff are in accordance with the Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA) Enterprise Agreement 2025, as varied or replaced from time-to-time.
