Maintenance Technician

About the role

This is a hands-on role responsible for performing preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance across production machinery, equipment, and facilities. The Maintenance Technician will play an important role in minimising downtime, maintaining optimal equipment performance, and supporting continuous improvement while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and food safety are maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct preventative maintenance on production equipment and machinery to minimise downtime

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and carry out troubleshooting and repairs

• Perform root cause analysis where required to prevent recurring equipment issues

• Assist with the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment

• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records, reports, and documentation

• Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and appropriate PPE requirements

• Work closely with production staff to optimise machinery performance and minimise production disruptions

• Ensure maintenance activities comply with food safety, WH&S, environmental, and company policies, including HACCP and GMP

• Identify opportunities for process improvements, equipment upgrades, and increased reliability

About you

• Trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, or engineering discipline

• Proven experience in a similar maintenance role, preferably within food or FMCG manufacturing

• Understanding of preventative maintenance systems and workplace safety standards

• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and respond effectively to breakdowns

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with production staff

• High attention to detail, accuracy, and a proactive approach to maintenance

• Hands-on approach with the ability to use tools and undertake physical maintenance tasks

• Willingness and flexibility to work afternoon shifts or respond to call-outs if required

• Computer literacy and familiarity with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
