Barista

About the role

Old Man Drew is seeking a talented Barista to join our team in Ascot Vale. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst allowing you to showcase your passion for specialty coffee and exceptional customer service. We are offering 5 full days per week, Saturday and Sunday a must.

As a Barista, you will be at the heart of our café operations, creating beautifully crafted beverages and delivering memorable experiences to our valued customers. This role is perfect for those who thrive in a fast-paced, welcoming environment and take pride in their craft.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based drinks, specialty coffees and other beverages to customer specifications

• Maintain impeccable standards of coffee preparation, ensuring consistency and excellence in every cup

• Operate and maintain espresso machines and other café equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines

• Provide friendly, attentive customer service, taking orders and engaging with customers in a warm and professional manner

• Monitor and manage stock levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups and other beverage ingredients

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the café, including the espresso machine and work stations

• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth café operations during busy periods

• Assist with general café duties including cash handling, till operations and light food preparation as required

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Barista demonstrating technical competency with espresso machines

• Knowledge of specialty coffee, including bean varieties, brewing methods and flavour profiles

• Strong customer service skills with the ability to build rapport and create a welcoming atmosphere

• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality beverages

• Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment, managing multiple orders and maintaining composure during peak times

• Reliable, punctual and flexible approach to work, with availability to work varied shifts including weekends and public holidays

• Barista certification or equivalent training is highly desirable

• A genuine passion for coffee and a desire to continually improve your craft
