Residential Care Officer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Residential Care Officer to provide

personal-centred care, supervision and structured support to people with disability living in

Supported Independent Living (SIL) and other group residential settings.

The Residential Care Officer will work closely with participants, families, guardians,

healthcare professionals and other service providers to understand individual needs,

implement support programs and monitor participants' wellbeing and progress.

The successful candidate will play an active role in participant assessment, individual support planning, skill development, progress monitoring, reporting and the delivery of person-centred support programs designed to promote independence and quality of life

Key responsibilities

• Provide person-centred care, supervision, and support to participants in SIL and group residential settings.
• Assess and monitor participants' abilities, individual needs, risks and support requirements.
• Contribute to the development, implementation and review of individual support and skill-development programs.
• Interview and observe participants to assess the nature and extent of their abilities and changing support needs.
• Support participants with personal care, mobility, daily living activities, household tasks and community participation.
• Implement individual care, health and Positive Behaviour Support plans in accordance with participant needs and organisational procedures.
• Assist participants to develop independent living, communication, social and community-participation skills.
• Monitor participants' health, mood, behaviour, wellbeing, progress and report significant changes promptly.
• Identify and report changes in participants' needs, circumstances, health or identified risks.
• Coordinate participant support with families, guardians, nurses, allied health professionals and other service providers.
• Maintain accurate case notes, progress reports, medication records, incident reports and other participant documentation.
• Contribute to participant reviews and updates to individual support plans.
• Communicate relevant participant information through reports, handovers and team meetings.
• Maintain safe, clean, stable and inclusive residential environments.
• Identify, document and escalate participant and service-delivery risks.
• Follow approved behaviour support plans and regulated restrictive-practice requirements.
• Comply with workplace health and safety, infection-control, medication-management, incident-reporting and risk-management procedures.
• Maintain participants' privacy, dignity, safety and confidentiality at all times.
• Comply with the NDIS Practice Standards, NDIS Code of Conduct and relevant legislation and organisational policies.

Qualifications and experience

• Applicants must have:
• a relevant Qualification in Disability, Community Services, Individual Support or a related field (e.g. Social Work); and
• at least one years of relevant experience in residential disability care, SIL or a comparable services environment.

Applicants should also have:

• demonstrated experience assessing participants' abilities, needs and support requirements;
• experience implementing and reviewing individual support or skill-development programs;
• experience supporting people with complex disability, behavioural or mental-health needs;
• sound understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and regulated restrictive practices;
• knowledge of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework;
• strong written communication, documentation and record-keeping skills;
• contfidence using electronic case-management and reporting systems;
• effective communication, teamwork and conflict-resolution skills; and
• the ability to work within professional boundaries, delegated authority and organisational procedures.

Mandatory requirements

The successful candidate must hold or be willing to obtain:

• NDIS Worker Screening clearance;
• A current police check;
• current First Aid and CPR certification;
• relevant manual-handling training.

The position may involve rostered work, including evenings, weekends, public holidays.
